Black Women Mean Business – Angélique Roché

Over the past decade, geek culture has moved from the sidelines of pop culture into the mainstream. From the rising support of comic books turned movies to sharing memories of reading Lord of the Rings in the school library, we cannot ignore the impact that the majority of these creative endeavors have had in the business world. Many Black women entrepreneurs are sharing their voices via podcasts or using innovative graphic design to highlight their latest product or newest service. We should not be afraid to tie in our professional careers with our hobbies, especially if they allow us to be our authentic selves.

Angélique Roché is an attorney, professional host, moderator, voiceover artist, journalist, and content creator. She took the corporate world by storm, creating communications infrastructures and crafting narratives for organizations on various issues and political campaigns. Due to her work as the campaign manager for the Ohio Secretary of State, she is the first Black woman to run a statewide campaign in Ohio in 2014.

Angélique has received several awards, including the EnVast Foundation’s National Capital Regions 40 under 40, Apex Society’s 30 under 30, and the Southern University Law Center’s Young Trailblazer Award. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the American Inns of Court.

“Creativity will break through the concrete…” Angélique states. In one of her more recent interviews with actor Ewan McGregor, she became enamored as he spoke about his time working with the famous Winnie the Pooh from Disney’s live-action film Christopher Robin. As a Black woman entrepreneur, she has taken her love for geek culture and turned her hobbies into multiple streams of income. She has accomplished this through partnerships, pitching to, and working with well-known brands who hold key real estate over a diverse, yet unique market.

You can listen to Angélique Roché on her weekly live-stream video interview series Creative Quarantine which she is the creator and producer. www.angeliqueroche.com/creativequarantine.
